American Express (AMEX), a multinational financial corporation together with Ocean Conservancy, a U.S. based organization for the protection of wildlife in the ocean, partnered with Hands on Manila in a coastal clean-up at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) last October 19.
Originally, the target number of volunteers were around 50-100, but 125 volunteers made it to the project. They rendered a total of 1,250 volunteer hours.
They were able to collect 204 sacks of trash weighing 2,546kg. (5,601lbs.) 186 of these sacks were plastics while the other sacks were filled with rubbers, glasses and styrofoams.
In line with one of Ocean Conservancy’s commitments which is to work with international groups for plastic reduction, they tapped AMEX, which then partnered with HOM as the project implementor.
